ISIA News, October 2020
Dear ISIA Members,
We are very glad to inform you, that the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA) has decided to commit to the “Sport for Climate Action Declaration”. In numerous activities together with our 37 member nations, we are already now following ambitious goals from our sustainability strategy from an ecological, social and economic point of view and are thus motivating more than 150,000 snow sports instructors worldwide to behave responsibly and in a resource-conserving manner in and for nature in the sense of successful climate protection. For this reason it is a matter of course for ISIA to join the UN initiative “Sports for Climate Action”. We are looking forward to further information and joint activities.
ISIA, as an association, supports the principles from the United Nations “Sport for Climate Action Framework” initiative. Recognizing the urgent need for cities, regions, businesses and investors around the world, ISIA will contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and accelerate the change needed to achieve greenhouse gas emissions neutrality (i.e. climate neutrality) in the second half of the 21st century. The 5 principles are:
Principle 1: Take systematic action to promote greater environmental stewardship
Principle 2: Reduce overall climate impacts
Principle 3: Educate about climate action
Principle 4: Promote sustainable and responsible consumption
Principle 5: Advocate for climate protection in communications
With this statement, we express our intention to implement the principles enshrined in the Sports for Climate Action Framework and commit to working with our colleagues and relevant stakeholders to develop, implement and improve the climate action agenda in sport.
