Congress in Vuokatti
During the Congress of Vuokatti, several interesting topics have been covered. The primary aim of the Congress was to present the strength and the potential of ISIA, alongside the identification of possible weaknesses and threats to the Association. Emphasis was given to developments within the Snowsports business and the significant contribution that ISIA could make.

In a compact summary, the economic situation was presented, with attendant numerics and statistics. Several reports were also shown regarding the manner in which snow sports are being promoted in various countries. Of special interest was the promotion of Disabled Sports in San Marino.

The presentation given about “Generation Y” examined the way the new clientele live and what possibilities Social Media platforms may offer. It was pleasing to notice that many members are adapting their training programme to ISIA standards and are keen on obtaining their ISIA qualification along with the ISIA Card. Furthermore, an educational movie by Sandi Murovec enthralled its viewers.

The Delegates Assembly
The points regarding the Statutes were accepted without any opposing votes. The request of older ski instructors, as candidates to the Giant Slalom, to be granted a time difference in accordance with their age, was rejected by the people present at the Delegates Assembly. Gilles Chabert has, again, communicated his annoyance towards the ISIA and criticised some of its activities.

Interski Ushuaia
The OC of Interski 2015, which will take place in Ushuaia, has presented newly updated information about the programme of the event and the infrastructure of its destination. Preparations are progressing well and the work on the demonstration slope has, for the most, been finished. Ushuaia was now waiting for Member countries’ confirmation of attendance so that hotel room bookings can be made. The exact programme of the ISIA sports event during the Congress is being currently composed. Of note, it is planned to organise a parallel slalom during the week of the Congress.

Presentation of the ISIA to the FIANET
Last winter, the ISIA took part in the Congress of lift operators, where an opportunity to present its activities was given. I was surprised to see that many countries did not know of the ISIA and its activities within the world of snow sports. We remain convinced that direct contacts are important and should be cultivated. Therefore, it is now crucial that our members go and see cable car companies in their respective countries to explain what the ISIA does
and why a cooperation between ski instructors and lift operators is important.

ISIA Events 2014-15
Following the presentation in Vuokatti, the ISIA is going to hold, during the next season, one or more events on the topics presented during the Congress. The ISIA Members are kindly invited to submit their interest on the relevant subjects for implementation that were covered during the Congress, in addition to candidates for possible venues. The expression of interest should be delivered to the ISIA Board preferably by the end of September 2014.

Thanks to Timo
“Ookeej…”
The Finnish Association, under the direction of Timo, has worked with much affection, care and enthusiasm to ensure that our stay would be nothing short of wonderful. The visit to the facilities, in addition to the hike and the safari through the forest on a scooter, has been extremely enjoyable for us all. Dear Timo, many thanks to you and your helpers!
